State of the Art: Idaho – Time 4 Change

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*

This month’s State is Idaho!

We move on to a new month and a new year with a brand new State of the Art series, this time covering Idaho. Bordered by Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, Canada, Idaho was the 43rd state to join the Union on July 3rd, 1890. While there is no certainty how the name was derived, it is most likely an adaptation of a word from the Shoshone, Plains Apache or Comanche Indians. With a current population of 1.7 million and covering some 84,000 square miles, “The Gem State” is the 39th most populated state and the 14th largest. Of course, everyone thinks potatoes when thinking about Idaho, and with good reason since the state provides a full one third of the country’s total yield each year. Hailing from Idaho’s state capitol of Boise come my first SOTA highlight of the year: Time 4 Change, who currently sit in the fifth spot on regional, ReverbNation charts for Idaho.

With influences being Motley Crue, Metallica, Gunsn Roses and Stone Temple Pilots, you should get a pretty good idea where these guys are coming from. Sitting squarely on the fence between Hard Rock and old-school Heavy Metal, they tip one way or the other throughout their pretty extensive repertoire but never going to the extremes of either. These guys have been around since 2007 and have changed things up a number of times to now include David Green on vocals, Mike McMahn, JakeNight Hawk” and Tony Bingham on guitars and Izzy Ramerez on drums in their current lineup according to their online information. They have a pile of available music online and have released a three song EP that can be had at any of their many shows or from their website. Based on research, Time 4 Change play almost constantly with live shows said to be “powerful, hard hitting, exciting and fun! We are bringing the ‘ROCK’ back to the music scene!”. So confident in their abilities to convert you to their brand of Rockn Roll, they offer free swag to anyone willing to give them a listen and simply message them on their Facebook page or talk to them at a show if you are in the area. What you can expect from Time 4 Change is a heavy, Bluesy guitar based Rock and Metal sound where pinch harmonics, hard rhythms, late 80’s/early 90’s style drums and generally, clean sung lyrics abound to create a sound with an equal mix of old and new. Take a look at the band, and you may think “biker gang”, but, like so many bikers and rockers, this band stand firmly with a definitive purpose for their musical creations. “TIME 4 CHANGE, the new beginning, is a Hard Rock for Recovery Band, We call it Awareness Rock, or Life Metal. Supporting the Recovery of Addicts and Alcoholics as well as help with adults & children of broken homes and abusive backgrounds. We support American Cancer Society, Disabled Veterans, and other Charity Events.”…”Our goal is to reach people all over the world with a powerful message, bringing awareness to the world and make the Time 4 Change! So live long & rock on!” They also proudly wear their Christian beliefs on their collective sleeves. While they never even come close to the cross over into what I would consider Christian music, there is always an underlying positive, moral message, be it from overt themes or from pointing out what they see as wrong in the world and proposals on how to fix said issues. In a current atmosphere of self and celebrity, I fall deeply into this school of thought and respect them for taking a stand for what they believe will make the world a better place. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that! We, as a society need a stronger passion for the positive. More power to them. In their continued efforts to reach a larger swath of people, Time 4 Change are currently working on their debut, full length album The World on Edge that is scheduled to be released early this year on Thoughtful World Productions. The first single off of the album, “Thoughtful World” is linked below, so please check it out and throw them so love. Local rules, no matter where you live!

About Odyssey

I have had a life-long love of music, but from the first time I heard Kiss and Black Sabbath with my landlord's son in Nicholasville, KY in the mid 70's, I have been hooked on Hard Rock and Metal. While my tastes in music have done nothing but expand since then, Metal remains closest to my heart. In addition, I have played bass, still play guitar and have literally 1000's of CDs/MP3s, so my knowledge is long steeped and honest. I don't buy the whole splintered, sub-genres thing and choose to like bands and music based solely on individual merits. Obviously, this is always colored by my mood, what I need at any given point and time and what is generally pleasing to my ear. I also don't like to rip any music or band, instead having an open mind and ear for it all because I have a passion for it all. It is completely subjective and in a constant state of flux. Consider me a music "nerd" not a music "snob". As an extension of this love, I hope to share this passion with everyone here and learn from your passion as well! - Odyssey -
