Louder Than Life Spotlight: NEW YEAR’S DAY

*Every Tuesday and Thursday from now until Louder Than Life gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*

Today’s Artist is New Year’s Day

This year’s Louder Than Life lineup is already understood to be one of the best rosters the festival has hosted to date.  I mean, how can you go wrong with Rob Zombie, Prophets of Rage, Incubus, and the Prince of Darkness himself, Mr. Ozzy Osbourne?  You can’t.  You can only add to it by throwing in bands that rock just as hard, although they might not be as widely known as our bat-biting leader.  There are a ton of bands from this year’s roster that fall into this category and New Year’s Day is one of them. DECAPITATED Members Accused Of Gang-Raping Spokane Woman After Concert

All four members of the Polish death metal band DECAPITATED have been accused of gang-raping a woman in the bathroom of their tour bus after their August 31 concert in Spokane, Washington.

Yesterday shocking news had surfaced that Waclaw Kieltyka, Rafal Piotrowski, Michael Lysejko and Hubert Wiecek had been arrested in Santa Ana, California, and held on charges of first-degree kidnapping. And just a day after when we all were hoping the allegations to be untrue, things just took a nosedive for worse, as further allegations of a gang rape are being thrown at the Polish band.

AT THE GATES Announce New Guitarist, Studio Album Update & First Live Gigs For 2018

Back in the month of March, when the news of the departure of Anders Björler from AT THE GATES surfaced, people were left shocked and appalled, questioning the motive behind it. The reaction was obvious as he was one of the founding members of the band. He later confirmed the news, stating the reason behind hanging up his boots in the band. He said the decision followed because, “The passion is just gone.” He also added, “This is a personal decision, and it has 100% to do with the music side of things.“, thus giving a possible insight of a different musical venture.

State Of The Art – AWAKEN ANTAGONIST

Welcome back to a brand new State Of The Art, we decided to pick Alaska this month due to the crazy scene going on so let’s get started!

Awaken Antagonist is the very first band to be featured this month and it is a blend of the greatest parts of deathcore and metal. They have only released their debut (which is self titled) and recently they have released their first full album which goes by the name of ‘Shepherd Of Plagues’. It got out via bandcamp on the 28th of July and on their official youtube page on the 5th of September. The transition between the 2 music pieces are fenomenal, the debut is one of the best I have heard but their full album blows me away. They matured so much just after their first piece that it is almost unbelievable. Check the album art below (made by Art and Layout by Soul Asphyx Arts), it is violent!

Album Review: CANNABIS CORPSE – ‘Left Hand Pass’

Death Metal is brutality in its impurest form. The ferocious guitar riffs, earth breaking bass, deafening drum beats, and guttural growls define one of metal’s most extreme and unforgiving genres, and this abrasive sonic assault perfectly describes the style of weed obsessed death metal band CANNABIS CORPSE.

Despite the fact that the name CANNABIS CORPSE is a parody of gore loving death metal band CANNIBAL CORPSE (just needed to explain for all NONE of you who weren’t already aware), bassist/vocalist Phil Hall, drummer Josh Hall, and guitarist Ray Suhy take their doobie influenced and (admittedly) humorous metal quite seriously, and this can be heard on their most recent record ‘Left Hand Pass’ which is an absolute monster of an album with smashing guitar riffs, unforgiving guttural screams, and a slight hint of melody that hooks the listener from start to finish.

Simply put: it’s crushing.

New Source Album, Tour Stories and the Search for a New Drummer: An Interview With Ben Gleason

Well, I have been absent for a while now, but I will always put in extra effort to make time for some of my favorite bands and people. Of course, my man from Source, Ben Gleason ranks among the top of these aforementioned groups, so when given the opportunity for another interview, I immediately jumped at it. Our story goes back a couple of years now when I was sideswiped and flattened by Source’s music during our State of the Art: Colorado series. Love at first listen, shall we say. Little did I know that my freshman article would spurn a great friendship with this uber-talented group of fine musicians that has been enormously valuable to me personally and professionally. After multiple interviews, show reviews, album reviews, naming their debut, Return to Nothing the Best Album of 2016 and recently crowning bass player Dan Crisafulli as one of our Kings of Strings, I am happy to bring you an inside look at the most current goings-on for a band I would rank as one of the best in the world. One listen to these guys and you will understand exactly what I am talking about. Be fortunate enough to meet them and you will love them even more. Curious? Want to learn more? Read on my friends…
