*This is part of our “Louder Than Life 2018 Spotlight” series where we focus on some of the up-and-coming bands that fans can see at this year’s Louder Than Life Festival on Sept. 28th-30th. This week, we’re checking out Blacktop Mojo.*
Blacktop Mojo comes from the great state of Texas. The band had some of their roots in country music, but when forming decided to go with a more rock edge. The style in which they play combines elements of southern rock and 70’s classic rock, and they don’t forget the guitar solos either. Matt James provides the vocals within the band. He has a soulful sound that creates a overwhelming amount of passion within the songs. Though the band writes incredible original songs their covers is really what has helped propel their popularity. Blacktop Mojo covered Aerosmith’s classic song “Dream On” and it has climbed up the charts and impressed pretty much anyone that has heard it. The band has also covered songs by Phil Collins and Blind Melon. The Blind Melon cover of “No Rain” is what instantly made me a fan of the band.
Though the band has found success early in their career they have remained humble. Over the past year the band has been road warriors and has played alongside Black Stone Cherry, Joyous Wolf, Aaron Lewis and Saving Abel. These tours also helped Blacktop Mojo gain new fans as these band play a similar style of music. Louder Than Life will mark the bands first appearance on a Danny Wimmer Presents fesitval and likely the biggest festival they have played thus far in their career. Blacktop Mojo has released ‘Burn The Ships’ in March of last year. The band teamed up with Muscle Shoals producer Jimmy Johnson for their highly anticipated sophomore outing. The album was released via the band’s label, Cuhmon Records.
Blacktop Mojo has a timeless sound that will never grow old, they are still in the early years of their career bit I foresee them being around for a long time to come. In addition to performing at this years Louder Than Life festival the band is also preparing for yet another tour. The tour will feature different bands on select dates, like Black Stone Cherry, Gemini Syndrome, and Shamans Harvest. (Tour dates below) They are one of the must see bands at Louder Than Life, don’t miss the amazing sound they create and the passion they bring to the stage.
