What an honor and a privilege to cover the thirty year anniversary of one of the most beloved, important and influential Metal albums of all time: Abigail by the almighty KingDiamond! AThirty years. Man, how time does fly. I can remember listening to MercyfulFate as a kid, loving King’s first solo album, FatalPortrait and the first time I heard Abigail shortly before graduating from high school back in 1987. Like many others from that time, my jaw dropped into my lap and has still not fully recovered to this day. It never comes close to getting old and is the album that scared the shit out of my girlfriend (now my wife of almost thirty years), shying her permanently away from the darker side of Metal this thing gave rise to. Hell, I was jamming it shortly before I learned that I would have this rare indulgence to cover a timeless Classic! It just always manages to snake its way into just about every playlist I listen to and/or create. Like many from my era, Abigail remains one my most loved albums of all time.

Southern California Industrial Metal band SOCIETY 1 have released a brand new music video for the song “It’s Yours Now” which features Ministry guitarist Sin Quirin. The song is from the bands upcoming album ‘Rise From The Dead’ scheduled for release this March on DSN Music. The video was directed by vocalist Lord Zane. SOCIETY 1 was founded in 1996 by the infamous Lord Zane on lead vocals, also features veteran guitarist Maxxxwell Carlisle, bassist Dirt Von Karloff, and drummer Iorden Mitev. “It feels good to be back at it again, like an old lover who fucked you better than anyone before or after” said Zane during a decadent signing party at the DSN Music complex in Malibu, CA. “Everyone has those moments when you resurrect and reinvent. This album Rise From The Dead is one of those moments.” The comeback for Zane follows a hiatus during which he established a successful Hollywood career as a music video director, working on projects with such acts as Zakk Wylde, John 5, Wayne Static, and Orgy. “For me this isn’t so much of a return for the band but more a return of my understanding of how necessary musical exploration is to my existence,” said Zane. The band is well known for their stage presence, especially Zane who sometimes inflicts pain on himself for the shock and amusement of fans. At Download Festival in 2005, Zane broke several records by performing the bands entire set suspended from 4 meat hooks through his back. While SOCIETY 1 us referenced as an industrial metal band this new track “It’s Yours Now” has much more of a groove filled grunge or 90’s rock sound. At times the song sounds hauntingly similar to the late Layne Staley fronted Alice In Chains. Though nothing can truly compare to seeing SOCIETY 1 in a live setting, this new video is a greatly directed piece of cinematography that showcases the band and a little bit of skin as an added bonus. EVERYBODY PANIC! is a highly charged rock band hailing from Oklahoma City, OK by way of Seattle, WA. A powerful four piece, consisting of Ty (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt) on vocals, Provo (Skinlab/Rikets) on guitars, Tony on bass, and Levi (Anti-Mortem) on drums, formed in 2012 and released its first self-produced EP independently in February of 2013. The band supported the release with high profile dates with the likes of Five Finger Death Punch, Godsmack, Deftones, and many others. That release would go on to sell over 3,000 copies through digital retailers. The video for “Our Last Goodbye” was shot while out on tour with the band Mushroomhead and is just a live video. It really showcases the band’s stage presence and energy while performing. Continue reading →

Long time readers know our affinity for Sin City’s,MeadeAve. We have been behind the Militia for quite a while now after showcasing the band and reviewing their killer live show over the course of the last year or so. Their sound is a modern take on old-school Hard Rock often bordering on Traditional HeavyMetal that deserves a very high spot on any playlist. Having a broad spectrum of accessible and honest music puts them in a sweet spot that attracts fans across many genres. On top of their undeniable musical talents, the band is extremely hard working and driven to support their fan base as much as we support their band. They have to be one of the coolest groups of people you could ever meet, happy to engage everyone that graces their presence. Zero attitude zone around the entire band. This carries over to contemporary bands as well. Drummer/Producer/Editor and all-around great guy, Aaron Paoletta runs The Cave Recording Studio and has developed a mobile platform, allowing them to record anywhere they land on their extensive tour schedule which can then be mixed and mastered at home base in Las Vegas, NV. He offers this advanced service to others at a very reasonable cost in an effort to promote his entire scene, not just Meade Ave. I don’t one thin dime from this statement and don’t intend this as an advertisement. This is truly how this man roles. Big kudos for his ongoing support of the entire music scene! Think about it. If it were not for fans and bands willing to put skin in the entire game, the music dies. Aaron gives us all a high bar to live up to wherever we live!
