Well this is a first for me. I mean I knew the Swedes have an incredible death metal scene out there, so amazing that they have carved their own genre, Swedish death metal. But today, I am not bringing to you something we know and hear very often from the Scandinavian nation. It did surprise me when I found out about this band called AWAKE THE DREAMER from Sweden, maybe cause I am not a big metalcore fan? But well, yes, the Swedes do have some really good diversity. From the buzzsaw death metal trademark sound to the modern day djent and metalcore, Sweden does house some incredible bands. And today, I bring to thee metalcore/post hardcore quintet from Stockholm, AWAKE THE DREAMER and their all new crushing single, “Believe“. Pictured in a vintage like video, the band can be seen dishing out their blend of progressive and melodic metalcore, which absolutely is crushing!

Mikey Doling (Snot, Soulfly, Channel Zero) is Joshua Toomey’s interview guest for this week’s episode of Talk Toomey: The Metal Nexus Podcast. Among other topics, their discussion puts to rest rumors that the ‘Strait Up’ tribute album consisted of songs originally intended to be the follow-up to Snot‘s debut album ‘Get Some.’ “We didn’t have any songs that were put together yet,” says Doling. “Some of the riffs on ‘Strait up’ are some of the riffs we were writing. Grunge veterans Alice In Chains are set to release their first album in five years Rainier Fog on August 24. June 27, they are also releasing another single from the record, “So Far Under”. This is a follow-up to the first single “The One You Know”, with a video directed by Adam Mason which has accumulated 2.3 million views. Watch the video here. This record is available on the band’s website, in physical and digital release. As far the as the physical release it will be available on CD and limited-edition double 180-gram clear LP with white and black splatter.

This is the band’s first recording with BMG and the first time in 20 years they have recorded an album in their hometown of Seattle. The album’s title is a tribute to the city, recording part of the record of Studio X (formerly Bad Animals) where they record their s/t album in 1995. Alice In Chains for the third time in a row worked with producer Nick Raskulinecz and engineer Paul Figueroa. The album was also mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool).

Hard rock group, Seether, is to embark on a short run in the United States this coming fall. The upcoming tour is in support of their 2017 release, ‘Poison the Parish’, the bands’ seventh LP. The tour will hit the east coast and midwest cities, beginning in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on September 13th and wrapping up in Des Moines, Iowa on October 5th. Joining Seether for these shows is acclaimed guitarist, Mark Tremonti’s own band, Tremonti.

With the recent passing of drummer, icon and all around nice guy Vinnie Paul loads of rock stars have made statements about the passing of one of Pantera’s founding members. Vinnie Paul passed away on June 22nd in his sleep. One of VP’s current bandmates in Hellyeah guitarist Tom Maxwell wrote on the band’s Facebook. “We don’t have much info to give you other then Vinnie is now with Dime and they are together in a better place.” We all have been waiting on a statement from the two remaining members of Pantera, Rex Brown and Phillip H. Anselmo. Thus far Phil has only shared a picture on his Instagram with a lit candle and no statement yet. However, Rex Brown has made a statement with another one to come as well. On Facebook Rex stated: “The last few days have been very difficult & painful. At this time, I need more time to process my feelings. “Thank you for all the love that has been sent. A formal press release will be coming shortly. Rest In Peace Brother Vinnie!” While we wait to hear his formal press release and something from Phil Anselmo we send our love and thoughts to all VP’s family, friends, crew, bandmates past and present and his fans.

Heavy metal purveyors INCITE are thrilled to announce their upcoming North American “Burn & Shred” headline tour, featuring support from AETHERE (8/10-9/8) and LODY KONG (9/14-9/28).
