BRIDGE NINE unveils JESSE LEACH cover of MINOR THREATS “SALAD DAYS” for upcoming comp ‘Still Having Their Say’ to accompany ‘xXx Fanzine (1983-1988) Hardcore and Punk in the Eighties’ book [Video Stream]

Bridge Nine have just unveiled Jesse Leachs (Killswitch Engage) impassioned electro/dub cover of Minor Threats “Salad Days” as the latest preview to their teased 19-song compilation album entitled ‘Still Having Their Say’. Featuring re-imagined interpretations of Hardcore hallmarks by the likes of Strife, letlive., Fu Manchu, The Riverboat Gamblers and more, the compilation will accompany the long awaited ‘xXx Fanzine (1983-1988) Hardcore & Punk in the Eighties’ book which drops on Nov 10th (pre-orders available here). On “Salad Days”, Leach commented, “I’m honoured to be a part of this covering one of my favourite bands on the planet. I wanted to bring a whole other creative approach to the song. I feel like if you’re going to do a cover you might as well push it in another direction and make it unique. I think it’s safe to say I added my own spin to the track. Hardcore music is the backbone and soul of my youth and Minor Threat was the first band to make me want to scream into a microphone.”

xXx Fanzine (1983-1988) Hardcore & Punk in the Eighties’ documents the iconic Boston magazines heyday and chronicles one of alternative music’s most raucous eras. Containing countless reproduced (and restored) interviews and pages from the ‘zine, the 288-page book offers readers a unique glimpse into how the messages and music of Punk shook the mainstream and influenced future generations. While based in Boston, lead writer and editor Mike Gitter spent time reporting on the thriving scene in the city (spear-headed by SS, Decontrol and D.Y.S), as well as gathering xXx reportage from other countries and states documenting the music and ideologies in motion during Punks evolution in the 80’s. Now, ‘xXx Fanzine (1983-1988) Hardcore & Punk in the Eighties’ gives readers a rare ‘Then and Now” perspective by re-interviewing countless bands and influential figures including Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Embrace, Fugazi), Keith Morris (Black Flag, Circle Jerks and super-group Off!), and members of Agnostic Front, Bad Brains and Cro-Mags. The book is not only a must-have read for any avid Punk or Hardcore fan, it offers music historians an intimate glimpse into the past and present from key figures of Punk and a deeper understanding of the movement from the ‘zine that lived and breathed it.

‘xXx Fanzine (1983-1988) Hardcore & Punk in the Eighties’ features: Minor Threat, Misfits, Necros, Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies, Husker Du, Jerry’s Kids, Black Flag, D.O.A., G.B.H, Void, Negative Approach, 7 Seconds, D.Y.S., Scream, Metallica, Corrosion of Conformity, Minutemen, The Exploited, Anthrax, Subhumans, Dead Kennedys, SSD, Henry Rollins, Descendents, Bad Brains, Youth of Today, Motorhead, Dag Nasty, Snapshot, Samhain, Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Bad Religion, Fugazi, and more…
