An Interview With Matt McJunkins (A Perfect Circle, The Beta Machine & More) [Video]

Palm Springs, CA native, Matt McJunkins has become quite familiar amongst music fans everywhere – and for good reason. Matt has played, and still plays, for several bands including A Perfect Circle, Ashes Divide, Puscifer, The Beta Machine, Eagles of Death Metal, the list goes on. In 2008, Billy Howerdel (A Perfect Circle, Ashes Divide) approached Matt with an offer to join Ashes Divide, which he kindly accepted. After extensive touring in support of their debut album ‘Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright’, as well as touring with Puscifer, Matt was asked to hit the road with A Perfect Circle following the announcement of the band’s reunion in 2010. Matt has also sparked his own project alongside Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle, Puscifer), The Beta Machine, who joined A Perfect Circle on their recent tour in 2017.

FOO FIGHTERS More Than Make Up For Lost Time In Lexington, KY 5/1/18

It’s been a couple weeks since Foo Fighters rolled through (or should I say rolled OVER) Lexington, KY, and my ears are still ringing.  The city’s famed Rupp Arena hosted the eleven-time Grammy-winning legends earlier this month after their original stop in the Bluegrass state was canceled last October due to a family emergency which frontman, Dave Grohl addressed mid-set with “There’s only one thing I love more than Foo Fighters, and that’s my mama!  And when my mama gets sick, f*ck all you motherf*ckers!” causing the crowd to erupt in cheers.  For well over 3 hours, the band entranced a nearly sold-out crowd with a slew of everyone’s favorite Foo Fighters tunes, as well as new material from their latest release, ‘Concrete & Gold’.  To call this show “just another rock show” would be an incredibly understated observation.  For me, personally, this single night had more heart, emotion, energy, and fan-to-artist connection than most shows I’ve seen. It’s almost that time, folks!  Just a few more weeks and Rock on the Range will soon flood Columbus, OH with thousands upon thousands of rangers who are eagerly awaiting their chance to rock out with some of today’s hottest bands.  In this segment, we’ve aimed to bring you up to speed on bands that are a little bit lower on the bill to get you familiar with their music so you won’t be completely lost by the time they hit the stage.  In this installation, we’re going to focus on a band that most of you have heard of and a band that I’ve personally wanted to see live for a long time.  I’m talking about Detroit, MI post-hardcore rockers, I Prevail. The Bucketlist with DRIFTER

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

Here at Metal Nexus, we always welcome newcomers to the music scene and love to hear new music from bands all over the world.  When we first hear about a band, it’s pretty interesting to sort of follow the band’s career as they gain more and more success from playing local shows to playing some of the biggest music festivals.  With that, New Jersey natives Drifter have been showing up in several independent media outlets in the recent months and one listen will have you understanding why.  Continue reading

World’s Loudest Month Spotlight: STITCHED UP HEART

As the weeks leading up to the World’s Loudest Month wind down, anticipation is rising. To kill the time in between, we’ve been working to bring you up to speed with some of the bands playing some of the summer’s biggest festivals. This week is definitely a treat as we introduce Stitched Up Heart, an energetic rock quintet from Los Angeles to which front-woman Alecia “Mixi” Demner attributes to a low time in her life:

“When I formed this band I was depressed and going through heartbreak. The name is supposed to give people strength and courage,” professes the frontwoman in a warm and certain tone. “We all go through things that make us think we can’t go further but, especially when times are bad, I want people to see that time will pass and it will get better. The hopeful lyrics on this record are on purpose – I’ve been living in the dark for too long, it’s time to come into the light. You need to pick yourself up because nobody is going to do that for you. There are some sick people out there, but there is beauty in everyone – and you need to love yourself before you can stitch that heart back up.” Continue reading

World’s Loudest Month Spotlight: TURNSTILE

*Every Wednesday from now until Rock On The Range and Carolina Rebellion we will be showcasing an artist playing the festivals to help you get to know them a little better.  This week, we’re checking out Turnstile – a hardcore quintet from Baltimore, MD!*

The running theme so far for this year’s upcoming summer festivals is that May is going to be the loudest month of the year, and with some really unbelievable lineups that statement is sure to be true.  However, the loudest month of the year wouldn’t be complete without giving the hardcore kids something to move to!  Well fear not, ladies and gentlemen, and prepare to throw down with Turnstile at Rock on the Range and Carolina Rebellion!  With a fresh album release, ‘Time & Space’, these guys are primed to destroy the stage and throw one up for the hardcore scene. World’s Loudest Month Spotlight: TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN

*This is part of the “World’s Loudest Month” segment where we branch out and focus on bands that fans can see at the year’s biggest music festivals during the month of May 2018!  This week, we introduce Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, a blues-rock quartet from “Music City” Nashville, TN who will be seeing a lot of stage time this Summer at Rock on the Range, Rockville, and more!*

I’m a firm believer that no matter your music preference, whether it be metal, rap, pop, or techno, everyone loves the blues in some form or another.  It’s also my belief that this, paired with the know-how and musical ability to create incredible music compositions, has played a major role in the rising success of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown.  The band is the epitome of soulful, genuine songs of rhythmic blues-infused rock and roll and have proven themselves so much as to be privileged enough to share the stage with music giants like ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, AC/DC, and Guns N’ Roses Continue reading

The Bucketlist with Phil Freeman of SMALL TOWN TITANS

*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*

The Small Town Titans are a power trio from York, PA who love to constantly create, as well as play live.  Gone is the notion that a rock band should only release 10 songs at a time every 2 years.  In a world where music fans crave new content constantly, the Small Town Titans aim to deliver their brand of art all the time, drawing inspiration from a new wave of rock bands such as Royal Blood to rock legends such as the Foo Fighters, Audioslave, and Deep Purple.  Thanks to their efforts at assembling their own studio in a basement, STT can create and release songs, podcasts, live online concerts, and more with no rules.
