*This is a part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured state*
This month’s state is Louisiana!
It’s Monday again and what better way to break your blues with some weed laced good stoner metal. Welcome back to my edition of State Of The Art segment, where today I am going to pass you a joint in the form of Louisiana’s stoner metal outfit MARS. Isn’t that a perfect name for a group of hippie stoner metallers? Like, who doesn’t wanna cash in for some good dark, gooey chocolate snack after you hit the greens? Just as good as Mars tastes in your mouth, the trio from New Orleans, Louisiana makes sure your aural desire gets served with full contentment.
French death-grinders BENIGHTED have announced a fall European tour that sees the band joining ABORTED and CRYPTOPSY. The tour kicks off on November 1 and concludes on November 25. A full list of confirmed full dates can be found below.
BENIGHTED are touring in support of ‘Necrobreed‘, which was released last year on February 27. It has been a little over a year now and the sickness of the new and latest record has not ceased spreading yet. The new album was pretty well received by fans and critics all over the world and cemented the band’s impact on the death metal/grind scene even more. Released under French label Season Of Mist, this is their eighth studio effort, and if you ask me, it is the most strongest record in their entire two decade long catalogue.
LA Hard Rock Band VYCES has released the official music video for their single, “Thin Luck“. The music video was directed by was directed by Ron Thunderwood.
Los Angeles based hard rock band VYCES started in the summer of 2014 when Chicago native Dave Naruszewicz was looking to work on a new project following the disbandment of his former group HEART-SET SELF-DESTRUCT. After years of touring with such bands as FILTER, HELL YEAH, VOLBEAT, POP EVIL, etc., he realized it was time for change. He spent time working with other musicians in the Chicago music scene looking to feed his passion as an artist but he did not find what he was looking for. Dave’s vision was not deterred, so he decided to reach out to longtime friend and drummer, Russell Ray (formerly of OLD FASHIONED BEATDOWN).
The much talked about Freddie Mercury and QUEEN biopic, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, yes the one starring Rami Malek as Freddie himself, has its trailer out today. November 2 will see the movie hitting the theaters on its release day as scores of rock & roll fans will throng to their nearest multiplex screens, to witness the legend’s story unfold to the masses for the very first time.
The one of a kind biopic on probably the best noted rock star of the bygone years, depicts the journey of Farokh Bulsara, a.k.a. Freddie Mercury and of his band mates in QUEEN, from the time they formed in 1970 to their greatest live performances which includes the legendary Live Aid, the ups and downs in the band. The film written by Anthony McCarten, follows QUEEN as they produce hit after hit, topping the charts while constantly evolving their sound. Through disparate songs like “Killer Queen“, “Bohemian Rhapsody“, “We Are the Champions“, “We Will Rock You” and countless others, the band reaches unparalleled success and Freddie becomes one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet.
This is something straight outta the 70s. From the big hair, the fashion and their hook driven retro sound Black Coffee is putting a retro twist on modern rock. The music is definitely a throwback to rock and roll’s most formative years, it’s just that the production is much more cleaner and the sound is substantially more heavy. The band has a sound that makes you feel like you are blowing the dust off one of your favorite vinyls.
Black Coffee formed in early 2017 after drummer Tommy McCullough introduced singer/bassist, Ehab Omran, to guitarist Justin Young. Within the first few days, these artists began songwriting and the chemistry was overwhelmingly apparent. With the release of Black Coffee’s debut album, ‘Take One’, on April 21st, the Columbus, Ohio rockers definitely possess the sound, style, confidence and work ethic that created legends in music in the previous few decades.
Well, we before we even begin this, let’s just admit it, Europe has the best metal festivals under its belt. From what I consider three of the currently biggest metal summer festivals are in Europe, the ever glorious Wacken Open Air in Germany, Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium and Hellfest in France. And, not just that every or the other country in Europe has some festival going on, you just name it and it’s there. Be it Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault, Denmark’s Copenhell, Spain’s Resurrection Fest, Rock Am Ring in Germany, Download and Bloodstock at metal’s home, England. It’s a fun and metal galore. If you have the time and money you are just blinded and caught in a dilemma as to which metal fest you’d wanna attend. Every year European metal festivals deliver, and it’s not just about the music and the incredible line-up, it’s also about the fun activities that go with it. Be it wrestling, mud fight, karaoke, football, just about everything under this goddamn sky.
Today, we throw some much deserved limelight to one of the biggest and most exciting metal festival in Central Europe and quite possibly in the whole of the continent. From the Balkan peninsula, Slovenia’s biggest metal festival MetalDays is what we’re going to talk about today. MetalDays undoubtedly is one of the most fun filled and exciting metal festival, from exciting line-ups to sun bathing at the beach nearby, to the serene and marvellous landscape, the festival is a perfect getaway for the summer. And, unlike most of the fests, which are during the weekend and with a maximum duration of three days, MetalDays beats them all and promises to give you the best vacation with a whole week of fun and frolic. Hell! if you add the pre-arrival it’s almost a two week metal extravaganza. The festivities commence from 22nd July up until the 28th.
Hey, all you tech and prog nerds! Look here, German progressive tech death band OBSCURA are back with a brand new single, “Diluvium” from their eponymous upcoming studio album. I’ve been hooked onto OBSCURA ever since I fell in love with their masterpiece of an album, ‘Cosmogenesis‘, well every album they do is fucking masterpiece. None the less, the German quartet today release their title track from ‘Diluvium‘, which is due out on 13th of July, via Relapse Records. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday gift!
Pre-order for the upcoming record opens today along with the release of the single. A bit over a year ago, OBSCURA put out ‘Akroasis‘, an absolute chart buster and a monumental landmark in their catalog. It’s not been much long and we already have a new song and an album lined up the sleeve.
*In this series we pose the age-old question to a wide array of music lovers. As fans of music, most of us keep a mental list of active bands we want to see live that we haven’t yet seen. The Bucketlist brings to you those lists of your favorite artists and why those bands mean so much to them*
RED DEVIL VORTEX is a hard rock band from Los Angeles, CA, brought to life in 2016 by Gabriel Connor (Lead vocals / bass), Pablo Kravicz (Guitars / vocals) and Iago Marcondes (Drums / vocals).
With the intention of creating a bombastic atmosphere through the music, visuals and live performances, RED DEVIL VORTEX has its kick start with the release of the first single, “The Fallen”, in October of 2016, followed by several live performances in Los Angeles and SoCal area, sharing the stage with artists like ULI JON ROTH, DAYSHELL, SALIVA and I AM MORBID.
Known for it’s high adrenaline filled live performances, RED DEVIL VORTEX are really on the rise. But today, we get a bit personal with the band, as we’re highly grateful to the band for letting us have the opportunity to make them the next victim in our regular segment called Bucketlist. Deutschland’s one of the best power metal exports, POWERWOLF will be coming out with an all cover album, featuring some very big and modern artists in the metal scene. The cover album features many POWERWOLF hit tracks covered by international stars within the metal sphere, such as, EPICA, BATTLEBEAST, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, AMARANTHE, CADAVAR, KALIBAN and many more. It is interesting to note that all the bands featured on this cover album are modern and young, which will really cater to a large mass of modern metalheads. Or if you’re someone who knows how to chill and not cause rift creating stuff like old school and new age, it should cater to you as well. Also, not to forget most of the bands on this album are led by, OR constitute female singers, which is yet another achievement in its own. Bands like EPICA, BATTLEBEAST, AMARANTHE and ELUVEITIE, have been the example setters when it comes to women in metal. And I think POWERWOLF has done a great job in putting forward and carrying on the female power in metal.
Also, this cover album, ‘Communio Lupatum’ will be a part of the all new upcoming POWERWOLF studio record titled, ‘The Sacrament Of Sin‘. ‘Communio Lupatum’ will be a part of the special edition of the brand new LP, which also contains a 3-CD earbook edition with studio album, and an orchestral album!
