IMPENDING DOOM Are Back To Their Roots With “The Sin And Doom Vol. II”

Christian metal act Impending Doom are back to their roots with The Sin and Doom Vol. II. For over a decade, these guys have found inspiration from their faith and their Southern California thrash and deathcore influence. Straying away from the typical themes of meaningless violence and blasphemy, instead Impending Doom have created their own style of “goreship”. While playing heavy riffs and macabre melodies, reverence is the heart of the band. Examining all the sin in today’s world, Impending Doom find solace in their Christian beliefs. Challenging the metal norms, these guys stand out against metal stereotypes. The Sin and Doom Vol. II is a revisit of their early days working with Christopher Eck, producer of The Sin and Doom. Review: HOSTILE ARRAY – ‘S/T’ [Official Video]

Maryland’s Hostile Array are here with their politically charged post-hardcore self-titled debut. Finding inspiration from their own political beliefs vocalist Brendan Fray explains, “I don’t consider myself to be very liberal or conservative, but I am passionate about addressing issues of corruption on both sides of aisle. Our hope is to motivate others to question the status quo and never compromise when it comes to demanding justice in our system.” Keeping their message nonpartisan, keeps a skeptic eye on both sides of the aisle.

Review: BURN THE PRIEST – ‘Legion: XX’ [Official Video]

Over the past few months Burn The Priest has been giving us a little taste of their roots with singles from their upcoming record ‘Legion: XX’. Burn The Priest, usually known by their second name, Lamb Of God, released a full-length record paying homage to the artists that influence them. Since the mid 90’s, Burn The Priest/Lamb Of God have reached a global audience with their guttural yet thrashy brand of metal. Comprised of Randy Blythe on vocals, Mark Morton and Willie Adler on guitars, John Campbell on bass, and Chris Adler on drums they began their conquest of the world in Richmond, VA. This album is paying tribute to their first label, Legion Records (Philadelphia) and its founder the late Michael “Mikey” Brosnan. Blythe announced the release of the album on his Gimme Radio show, like a late-night punk rock college radio show. It is refreshing to see these guys who are now considered mainstream doing this release with a DIY attitude. Continue reading

Review: SKINLESS – ‘Savagery’ [Official Video]

Skinless are back again with another brutal release from Relapse Records titled, ‘Savagery’. Starting in the early 1990’s, these guys decimated the underground scene with intense live performances. Noting Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, and Deicide as influences, they gained a large following to support their 1998 release ‘Progression Towards Evil’. Signing a deal with Relapse Records, the band released four more albums: ‘Foreshadowing Our Demise’, ‘From Sacrifice To Survival’, and ‘Trample The Weak’, ‘Hurdle The Dead’. Gaining a loyal fan base worldwide, they have shared the stage with likes of Slayer, Dying Fetus, and Hatebreed. After lineup changes and an eventual hiatus, Skinless reformed to lay waste to the world once again with ‘Only The Ruthless Remain’. With that terribly appropriate title, Skinless proved to us that they could stand the test of time, the most brutal force of all. With ‘Savagery’, they show their pure strength once again. Review: SOL DE SANGRE – S/T [Official Video & Album Stream]

Typically I don’t find a language gap in music, especially metal. When I was in middle school, my Spanish teacher introduced me to Spanish metal and from then on I had a deeper appreciation for world music. Sol de Sangre which translates to “Blood of the Sun” are Colombian, but currently reside in different parts of the world. This powerful group consists of Kike Valderrama (Headcrusher) on vocals, Rolando Ramos Torres on guitar, Gonzalo Restrepo (Absolution Denial, Cromlech, Deadsoul) on drums, and Gustavo Adolfo Valderrama on bass. They have captured the old-school death metal aesthetic, while adding their own thrashy and melodic flair to the style. Since 2017, they have been releasing singles to support their upcoming self-titled album with Black Market Metal. The album was mixed by Tomas Skogsberg (Sunlight Studios) and mastered by the ever-prolific Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust, Tiger Junkies). On March 23rd, the album was released and it took off like a goddamn rocket!
