Indianapolis IN may not be the first place that comes to mind as a hot bed for progressive metal, but it’s where the members that make up The Contortionist call home. While their 2010 debut, Exoplanet, had more of a traditional metalcore sound it would also prove to be more of a one off sound for the band as they would experiment with their sound going into the more prog realm they’ve become known for on albums like 2014’s Language and 2017’s Clairvoyant respectively.  Their upcoming EP, Our Bones, continues the evolution of the bands sounds with more emphasis on atmosphere and includes a take on the Smashing Pumpkins hit, 1979. DEVILDRIVER Guitarist Reveals Concept For Upcoming Double Album “Main Idea Was Taking Away Of Liberties and Bondage Of The Human Soul”

Neal Tiemann has had a storied career in the music industry as a session guitarist as well as being a full time member of a handful of big bands.  From starting out as a session guitarist turned member for James Hart’s post Eighteen Visions band Burn Halo, to becoming a part of Brandon Saller of Atreyu fame’s solo band Black Cloud Collective which would then become Hell or Highwater.  This before finding a home in Devildriver where he’s put out 3 albums, one of which is an upcoming double length concept album, in a 3 year span. New Years Day Guitarist On Negative Feedback From Pantera Cover “Vinnie Paul Gave Us A Thumbs Up, Only Approval I Needed”

New Years Day have come along way since their rise in the Myspace days back in 2005.  While the bands sound has evolved since their first self titled release in 2006, one thing has always remained, their penchant for writing hook centric hard rock/metal.  Fronted by vocalist Ash Costello who provides plenty of beauty to match the bands brawn.  After tours with In This Moment and Halestorm have seen NYD take notice of their peers and push more into that active rock sound, most notably on their most recent release, 2019’s “Unbreakable”, which debuted in the Billboard top 100.
