OOLUU Release Video For “Polyvalence” [Video]

We recently reviewed OOLUU’s new album ‘Ophus’. You can read that review here. The band has released a brand new video from that album. The video is for the song “Polyvalence” which is one of the slowed down more emotional tracks on the album. The video was recorded and edited by hX. The video takes an abstract artistic approach to relaying Ooluu’s vision of this song. The video along with the somber melodies of the track work well to truly capture the songs lyrical content. Enjoy the video below and read the lyrics as well.  Continue reading

Review: No Gods No Masters ‘Fear In a Handful of Dust’ [Stream]

nogodsno

No Gods No Masters was formed in 2013 in the Netherlands. By the sound of the band you may think that they are from the swamps of Louisiana, as most sludge bands hail from. However, these guys aren’t lacking anything when it comes to sound. The band has brought sludge to the Netherlands. They aren’t your ordinary sludge band, they know what they do and they do it well. The band released a self-titled EP in January of 2013 and it received rave reviews. That EP was released via Torn Flesh Records. Recently, No Gods No Masters have finished recording their debut album ‘Fear In a Handful of Dust’. At the moment the band does not have a label but is negotiating with labels and plan to release on a label in the upcoming months. The album was recorded by Michiel Toenink (Total Infection, Devious) and Olaf Skoreng been mixed and mastered by JB Van Der Wal (Herder, Korpse, Ditch) at the Hewwetover studio. The album released March 4th, 2016. Don’t let the above picture of these gentlemen fool you in their nicest attire, their music is pure gritty, dirty sludge that we all know and love. Canadian rockers, EAGLESON is powerful four piece act band. The band formed in 2011 and have perfected their sound. They have had some lineup changes, but the bands vision is now more clear. Eagleson has released a video for the self-titled song “Eagleson” which they recorded themselves. The band is on the brink of recording their second EP. The forthcoming EP will be the follow up to their previous release ‘White Buffalo’. This hard-hitting single outlines their story in getting to where they are now. The band has an overall rock feel, with some stoner elements. The vocals have this grit to them that keeps you craving more. We are very anxious to see what else this band has to offer and we look forward to the upcoming release of their EP. Continue reading

State Of The Art: Utah – Cult Leader

13116402_993367597450548_1196887626520724730_o

*This is part of our State Of The Art series, showcasing bands every Monday from the featured State*

This month’s State is Utah!

Cult Leader was formed in 2013 by 3 members of the band Gaza. The band Gaza was legendary in their region, and created some of the most fierce music I’ve heard. By far one of my personal favorite bands. Gaza was active for 9 years, from 2004 to 2013. The band had elements of mathcore, sludge and grindcore in their sound and some of those elements have their way to Cult Leader. In addition to some of the already influences they also add a progressive twist to their new band. The band has released two EPs and one album. The first EP ‘Nothing for Us Here’ was released in 2014 and June of 2015 saw the release of their second EP ‘Useless Animal’. Cult Leader wasted no time putting out a full length which they released in October of 2015 titled ‘Lightless Walk’. All 3 of their records have been released via Deathwish Inc. which is owned by Converge’s vocalist Jacob Bannon. Cult Leader has quickly become one of my favorite bands.

Cannibal Corpse Records Theme Song For Halloween Episode of ‘Squidbillies’!

cannibal

Nothing pairs better than cartoons and metal right? Well the creators of Squidbillies just kicked things up a notch. For the Halloween episode of ‘Squidbillies’ (entitled “Squash B’Gosh”), Cannibal Corpse recorded a special theme song for the show, which aired on October 30th, 2016. Producer and Hate Eternal vocalist/guitarist Erik Rutan comments about the collaboration: “The producers of ‘Squidbillies’ contacted Cannibal Corpse and asked them to record the theme song for their Halloween episode that just aired. I was fortunate enough to be able to record and mix it for them before I went on tour. Was two days of fun, total blast, enjoy!!! Happy Halloween!!!”

Footage From Canceled Metallica Game Now Online!

metallica-hardwired

In 2005 a post apocalyptic Metallica tie-in game was in development called Damaged Inc. Ultimate Classic Rock states that the game would have been based around players driving around a dystopian wasteland in a selection of modified vehicles. The visual aesthetic of films such as Mad Max and The Road would have been a huge influence on the game according to the site. And while Metallica fans knew about the canceled game (with some investing in the graphic cards pro gamers use to get ready for it), this month is the first time that actual game play footage has been released. Nachtmystium Sign With Earache And Prepare To Enter Studio!

nacht

Nachtmystium has signed a new deal with Earache. Recently the independent record label also acquired the majority of the back-catalog of Nachtmystium as well. Earache‘s new deal with Nachtmystium includes the rights to five of the band’s studio albums, four EPs, a demos collection, and a remixes and rarities album which was previously only released on YouTube. Founder and vocalist Blake Judd comments: “I am proud to announce a new cooperation in the lengthy release history of Nachtmystium. I have teamed up with the folks at the legendary, UK-based metal label, Earache Records, to reissue the majority of Nachtmystium‘s back catalog recordings. Earache will also be releasing a brand new compilation LP of unreleased studio tracks, covers and remixes, titled ‘Retox‘. Earache ensures fans that there will be never before seen artwork included and there is something special for the fans that purchase the release(s). In the not so distant past Judd suffered from drug addiction and caused turmoil among his fan base when orders though him were undelivered. Judd adds: “Many people on the internet, understandably due to some issues that occurred in the past that I am very ashamed of, will be quick to jump on me personally and most likely Earache as well for announcing new releases without having directly addressed and taken action regarding the past issues mentioned above.” Judd is now clean and is trying to put the best foot forward and correct his past mistakes. We have not always condoned his actions but will always support his music. Blake writes and composes some of the best black metal ears have ever heard and we are certainly glad he is back doing what he does best.  Continue reading

Review: OOLUU ‘Ophus’ [Stream]

oooo

OOLUU was forged from the remains of the band Oompalunatiks. Eric Davindra and Asa Holloh were members of the band and Wychdoktor later joined the band during a lineup change. The three had an unbreakable chemistry that remained standing even after Oompalunatiks ceased to exist. In 2013 they rechristened themselves Ooluu and in December of that same year the band truly found their sound and released their first single and video for “Powder-White”. Since that first single the band’s sound has evolved and progressed exponentially. A few months later in February of 2014 the band released their debut EP ‘Mannequin’. The band continued to compose music for future releases but took a hiatus from live performances to further hone their craft. Ooluu has elements of industrial and alternative metal within their sound. The band recently emerged once again and released their latest album ‘Ophus’ on January 23rd, 2016. Continue reading
