In steps West Virginia native Matt Bowles formerly of the band Our Malignant Beloved. He is the newest addition to Byzantine. The band will soon begin the task of writing and recording a follow up to their highly successful album “To Release Is To Resolve”, which made several top 10 lists including ours. An Interview With HATEBREED’s Frank Novinec

HATEBREED

HATEBREED

Introduction by Dragon:

Hatebreed is an institution when it comes to both the U.S. and global Hardcore/Metal/Crossover scenes as the band itself is closing in on it’s 25th anniversary come 2019. They have championed those scenes constantly while reinforcing notions about the strength of the individual, the power of self-reliance, and the inevitable victory that is achieved by one’s actions through their pureness of heart and durability of will. “Strength” in every sense of the word is always the take-away from Hatebreed as this iconic band prepares to release their seventh album “The Concrete Confessional” via Nuclear Blast on May 13th. The band is also preparing to hit the road across the U.S. with DevilDriver, Act Of Defiance, and Devil You Know soon and with all of that in mind, Metal Nexus reached out to Hatebreed guitarist Frank Novinec to ply us with a bit of his time and experience in the following interview. For those of that don’t know, Frank Novinec is an icon himself since his earlier work in bands such as Integrity, Ringworm, and Terror which, alongside his tenure in Hatebreed, all testify to what an expressive artist and figure he is so without further ado, let’s breakdown and break loose with Hatebreed guitarist Frank Novinec. International Guitar Month: JIMMY BOWER

If you are a fan of any New Orleans band you should be thanking Jimmy Bower. Jimmy has been one of the forefathers of metal in Louisiana. You may know him from Eye Hate God, Down or Superjoint Ritual. Jimmy is one of the most celebrated guitar players in heavy metal, and while he is a legend on that instrument he is also a well accomplished drummer as well (as you may have seen in Down). Jimmy has often been called “The Godfather of Southern Metal.” If the iconic bands mentioned above wasn’t enough he also had brief stints in the bands Corrosion of Conformity, and Crowbar. Another band that Jimmy has shredded for was The Mystick Krewe of Clearlight. It was an instrumental project so it allowed our ears to consume even more of Jimmy’s sacred sound. Continue reading

Flea Plays National Anthem At Kobe Bryant’s Farewell Game

fleaLAL

Last night the sports world bid farewell to the LA Lakers 20 year veteran Kobe Bryant. Prior to the game Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea performed the national anthem. Some critics are saying that Flea butchered the song. Fox Sports Nick Schwartz had this to say “the Lakers may wish they had picked a different artist to perform the national anthem. Lakers megafan Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers kicked off the night with an inventive bass-only version of The Star-Spangled Banner, and was quickly roasted on Twitter for what some fans are calling the worst national anthem of all time.” We do have to admit it’s a very unique version of the song. Flea has said afterwards “I rocked that shit.” Judge for yourself, and let us know what you think on Facebook! Continue reading

Members of Pentagram & Mondo Drag Play Tribute to Merle Haggard!

penta

Members of the legendary doom band Pentagram and Mondo Drag have paid tribute to fallen outlaw country superstar Merle Haggard. They performed Merle Haggard’s “Sing Me Back Home” in Wiesbaden, Germany April 08, 2016. Bobby Liebling wasn’t at the mic for this song however, it was Pentagram’s legendary guitar player and Tennessee native Victor Griffin belting out the song in Merle’s honor. Of course Griffin is no stranger to the microphone. He is the front man of Place of Skulls, and Victor Griffin’s In-Graved. So 3 parts Pentagram 2 parts Mondo Drag makes for an amazing sound. The line-up for the song consisted of Pentagram’s Victor Griffin, Pete Campbell, and Greg Turley, and Mondo Drag’s John Gamino and Jacob Sheley. Enjoy! Continue reading

Review of Sheiks of Neptune live in Las Vegas!

12592776_1706227199653195_3431233393758767064_n

Random and spur of the moment concerts are always amazing. While out in Las Vegas earlier in the month I just happened to make it to a Dead Kennedys show that was totally unplanned. The concert took place at the Las Vegas Country Saloon on Fremont Street (yes, DK played a country saloon). One of the best things that can happen at a concert happened that night. Other than the Dead Kennedys I knew none of the bands on the bill. I was absolutely blown away by the 3rd band of the night. The band Sheiks Of Neptune was not only the best band I saw that night but one of the most active and best stage shows I have seen in years. (And I have seen a shit ton of shows, trust me) These guys take the stage and every eye in the room is on the stage. The whole theme of the band helps build their stage presence, but when the vocalist known as “Sheikenstein” comes running out its non-stop energy until the set is over. A ride-able toy spaceship, a beheaded Barbie doll and a Marvin The Martian style ray gun are just some of the props used to help their show come to life. Continue reading

All Hell Release Video for “Graveyard Dust”!

allhell

The blackened thrashers from Asheville, North Carolina All Hell have released a video for “Graveyard Dust” which is by far my favorite track from their 2015 release The Red Sect. Make sure to catch them on their upcoming tour. We recently was able to catch them in their hometown and experience their amazing set by candlelight. One of the most catchy blackened thrash songs I’ve ever heard. Check out the video and enjoy.  Continue reading
