DOWNTREND & ZEROKING Co-Headline In Whitesburg, Kentucky! [Photo Gallery]

Downtrend w/ Andy Haught (Zeroking) on Backing Vocals

Spending Labor Day weekend watching some bands live is quite the way to ease the pain of the summer coming to an end. This past Saturday West Virginia’s Zeroking and Kentucky’s Downtrend partnered up to melt the faces off of fans at Summit City in Whitesburg, Kentucky. The show marked only the 6th or 7th show new vocalist Shawn Williams had performed with Downtrend, and though I’ve seen the band various times throughout the years this is the first time other than witnessing a short practice session that I was able to see Shawn go to work on the stage. Both bands go way back and have played together before throughout the last decade. Zeroking have been furiously working on their upcoming album ‘The Empire Of Sin’ and have just put the final touches on the album. They have also released a track from the album titled “Boom”. The West Virginians have been working on the album since 2014 and needless to say we can’t wait to hear it. Continue reading

Dutch Stoners OBESE Release Details About New Album ‘Anamnesis’ & New Video! [Video]

Sometimes the greatest finds in music are the ones you just stumble across on accident. Obese is an amazing groove-filled stoner rock band from the Netherlands. Let me assure you, the only thing fat about this band is the groove. They have the sort of sound that has to be appreciated stoned with your favorite supply of green from weed-crew. Roll up, get comfortable and enjoy the music. I promise you that you will enjoy the music. I mean, I think I would appreciate smoking some of my favorite herb in any form when listening to them. Maybe lighting up some weed in a glow in the dark bong could let me enjoy the vibe of their music better, in complete darkness. Either way, Obese is now definitely on my ‘stoner’ playlist. In 2015 Obese released ‘Kali Yuma’ and when I stumbled upon the album I couldn’t stop listening to it. The album made # 7 on my personal best albums of 2015. (read here). The band has an incredible sound that is just addictive. They have a stoner rock sound that often includes some sludgy riffs and even some doom inspired moments. Continue reading

Review: FLAW – ‘United We Stand’

Louisville, Kentucky’s nu-metal heroes Flaw have been dominating stages since before the release of their debut ‘Through The Eyes’ in 2001. The band is now revived and better than ever. Their comeback release last year ‘Divided We Fall’ proves the band hasn’t lost their touch. Chris Volz and Jay Daunt are the core of the band and have led the charge of a nu-metal resurgence over the past two years. Flaw have toured relentlessly playing both as a supporting act and as a headliner and even made numerous festival appearances including back to back performances at Louder Than Life in their hometown and also Ink In The Clink. Still on the heels of their full length release the band has now finished up a companion EP to ‘Divided We Fall’ and it’s titled ‘United We Stand’. The 6 track EP includes 4 brand new tracks and two live tracks. Both live songs are from the ‘Through The Eyes’ album and include “Payback” and “Only The Strong”. Inspired by 90s grunge, Joey Arena began playing guitar at the age of 11 on an old 3-string guitar. After achieving commercial success with his first band Young Bloods, Arena struggled to find himself, and soon was traveling 8 hours on weekends from Rochester to Cleveland in search of an identity and definition for what would become Ovtlier’s debut EP ‘What Doesn’t Kill You’. After adding Paul Milne on lead-guitar, Joey Lana on drums, Cosmo Pusateri on bass, and Joe Syracusa on rhythm guitar, the full line up began playing sold-out local shows and rapidly growing their fan-base among rock fans. Following several offers from major labels, Ovtlier set out to deliver their most personal and intense work yet. Continue reading

Louder Than Life Spotlight: BLACK MAP

*Every Tuesday and Thursday from now until Louder Than Life gets here we will be releasing an article about a band playing the festival to get you familiar with them.*

Today’s Artist is Black Map

Black Map has been making the rounds this year on the festival circuit. This years Carolina Rebellion was actually one of the bands first festival appearances of the year. We were there to see their dominating performance and the fans there loved them just as much as we did. Again we were able to see them at Chicago Open Air in July and once again they were one of the most dominating bands of the day. The alt metal trio unleashed their first songs in 2014. First, their 4-song EP titled ‘Driver’ was released in February and all 4 songs were included later on that year on their first full length album ‘…And We Explode’. They put off a heavy 90’s rock vibe with huge, blasting riffs and raw emotion all packed into one punch. Last year the band made a large breakthrough with the premiere of a new song “Run Rabbit Run”. This song took the airwaves by storm and told us to get ready for 2017 because Black Map is quickly on their way to the top. ‘In Droves’ dropped across the US on March 10th via eOne Music. The album was produced by Aaron Hellam at Hellman Sound. Consisting of members from the bands Far, The Trophy Fire, and dredg, the band does a solid job combining all of the project’s sounds into one.
